Portfolio Momentum

Major milestones across the portfolio this month. Here's where things stand.

NewGenium SPV 2, L.P. — $2.5M Offering Oversubscribed

NewGenium

Investor demand exceeded expectations — the $2.5M offering was oversubscribed within the first 24 hours, and NewGenium has expanded the round to $5M as a result. If you haven't yet responded to our June 23, 2026 email outlining the NewGenium SPV 2, L.P. opportunity, please reply with your decision: any remaining capacity opens to our broader investment community on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Since the webinar, NewGenium has continued to build momentum on two fronts. First, the company completed a cohort with the Arkansas Lithium & Clean Energy Technology Accelerator (ALTA), deepening relationships with Standard Lithium, ExxonMobil, and Chevron — all active investors in the region and strong potential collaborators or acquirers. NewGenium's core patents have also graduated from provisional status and been filed for global protection, locking in technology rights for 20+ years. Second, the company is finalizing agreement terms with the University of Arizona (UA) to build its next, larger-scale pilot alongside relevant UA teams, positioning NewGenium for technology licensing and/or a sale.

Big News: Intramotev Lands Term Sheet From Top Global Infrastructure Investor

Intramotev TugVolt railcar

On our July 13 webinar, CEO Tim Luchini shared the big news: an infrastructure fund with $30B+ under management has offered Intramotev a term sheet to lead its $40M Series B with $20M, at a $210M pre-money ($250M post-money) valuation. The deal also establishes a leasing AssetCo — with Intramotev owning 20% (and the option to earn up to 40%) — backed by an additional $100M–$200M in committed capital from the fund. Once leveraged through a debt facility, that structure unlocks $300M–$500M in guaranteed funding for customer vehicle leases. Unlike a straight sale to an outside leasing platform, the AssetCo structure lets Intramotev capture both the upfront vehicle sale and long-term leasing revenue — nearly half a billion dollars of potential growth capital, structured to compound.

For context: Idealab Arizona's first check into Intramotev was $300,000 at a $3M valuation back in July 2021. Today, across Idealab Arizona, IdealabX1, and our two follow-on SPVs (Intramotev SPV 1 and Intramotev SPV 2), we hold approximately 22.93% of the company. As shared on the webinar, this Series B is a highly competitive process, and it's expected to be the last equity round Intramotev intends to raise — so it's not yet clear whether a final follow-on SPV (Intramotev SPV 3) will be possible. We're fielding a high volume of investor interest and will report back in real time as this dynamic situation develops.

Webinar Recap: Where Intramotev Stands Today

Intramotev Investor Webinar recording
  • Momentum: 5,000+ railcars delivered in 2025, ~$10M in contracted/delivered revenue, and a $260M active pipeline (up $30M on new federal proposals).
  • New federal traction: Two federal applications submitted for regulated U.S. use cases (COLT, OVRR), representing $14M in revenue potential for Intramotev.
  • Industrial expansion: Four new steel mill applications submitted, plus a shortline replication site proposal for two TugVolts and new switching opportunities under evaluation on the U.S. East Coast.
  • Class 1 progress: A Class 1 railroad has moved from general interest to full business case analysis for a 3-TugVolt deployment in Indiana.
  • Marquee customers: Watco (47 railroads) and R.J. Corman (21 railroads) under contract, plus a major European rail freight operator in Austria needing 2,500 vehicles by 2030.
  • Military & regulatory: A completed three-week field exercise with the U.S. Army during Operation Sentinel Justice — opening a new funding opportunity — plus Build America 250 Act language requiring FRA rulemaking for this vehicle class within 12 months.
  • Board strength: Former Wabtec CEO Ray Butler, retired Major General Farman (Army logistics), and NStar's John O'Brien now sit on the board.
  • Scaling up: A second manufacturing facility is in the works — Arizona is a leading candidate — as Intramotev scales toward ~160 vehicles/year, its profitability threshold (~3 years out). Per-unit pricing has climbed to $500K–$1M.

NuCube Energy Signs Business Combination Agreement to Go Public

Disclaimer: This is not an announcement of an actual Nasdaq listing. The image reflects a promotional marketing initiative by Nasdaq aimed at prospective listing candidates, including NuCube Energy, and does not indicate that NuCube has listed or been approved to list on the exchange.

If you joined our NuCube/NewGenium webinar, you already heard this from Allen Morgan and Bill Gross. NuCube signed a business combination agreement with Launch Two Acquisition Corp. (Nasdaq: LPBB), setting a path to go public later this year at a $500M pre-money valuation, with closing targeted for the second half of 2026.

The deal follows a run of federal momentum — selection for the DOE's Nuclear Energy Launch Pad USA program, a GAIN voucher with Argonne National Laboratory, and the opening of NuCube's first Phoenix office, led by former Oklo counsel Michael Green as Chief Legal Officer.

Big News: NuCube Energy Launches NuAlaska to Bring Advanced Nuclear to Alaska

Just announced: NuCube has signed an MOU with Alaska Fund to launch NuAlaska, a joint initiative to deploy NuCube's NuSun-1 microreactor across Alaska — targeting remote communities and industrial sites where reliable power is hardest and most expensive to deliver today. NuCube's reactor is designed to provide electricity and heat for up to 25 years without refueling, a natural fit for Alaska's isolation and fuel-logistics challenges.

Alaska Fund — which made its first investment in NuCube during the company's most recent financing round — will lead the effort to finance the construction, ownership, and operation of the projects, with a structure built to bring in additional advisors and investors as it scales. The initiative already has the ear of the state: Alaska Fund CEO Matt Larkin and NuCube CEO Cristian Rabiti briefed Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy on NuAlaska at the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, and received his public support. NuCube and Alaska Fund are now working toward a definitive joint venture structure while engaging local communities, the Department of Energy, and state and federal representatives.

It's the latest sign of NuCube's momentum going into its public listing — and further validation that the country's most power-constrained regions are turning to NuCube's technology to solve problems nothing else can.

Founder Spotlight
Easton LaChappelle

Easton LaChappelle

Founder, Unlimited Tomorrow

For Easton LaChappelle, the past few months have marked an important transition from invention to execution. Idealab Arizona and IdealabX haptic technology company Unlimited Tomorrow recently secured its primary utility patent, advanced its flagship TactraFlex technology from a polished prototype to a manufacturable product, established its production pipeline, and began its first sample production run. Over the next six months, the company will launch its new brand and digital estate while deploying production-quality products into the field.

"It can be easy to become obsessed with the product and have tunnel vision. I find myself being ultra-focused on our future customers' pain points and ensuring our solution solves them."

Despite the momentum, LaChappelle says one principle continues to guide every decision: staying focused on the customer. That mindset has shaped the company's approach to product development, including overcoming manufacturing challenges associated with custom soft goods and wearable technology by building partnerships designed around the complete system rather than conventional glove manufacturing.

LaChappelle is particularly energized by the growing adoption of extended reality (XR) in training and simulation, where customers consistently point to one missing capability: realistic touch. "We continue to find that touch is drastically needed and hasn't been solved yet," he says. "This is why we are quite excited about introducing TactraFlex to the marketplace."

For LaChappelle, the opportunity extends beyond a single product. As AI, robotics, and immersive technologies continue to converge, he believes the next frontier will be how humans physically interact with intelligent systems. "We're entering a new era in how humans interact with and receive feedback from technology," he said. "TactraFlex is building the tactile intelligence layer that enables AI, simulations, and robots to communicate through touch."

ProRata.ai Signs Five Major Publishers

Gist Answers video

As generative AI reshapes online search, Idealab Studio AI search, advertising, and attribution platform ProRata.ai is rapidly expanding a new business model designed to ensure publishers are compensated when AI uses their journalism. This month, Sports Illustrated, BuzzFeed, The Arena Group, DMGT, and Frommer's announced they are deploying ProRata.ai's new Gist Answers and Question Bar products, bringing AI-powered search and question answering directly onto their own websites instead of sending readers to external AI platforms.

The milestone reflects growing momentum behind ProRata's approach to one of AI's biggest commercial challenges: creating an economic model that rewards the creators whose content powers AI-generated answers.

Creating AI Economy Infrastructure

Unlike most AI systems that rely on scraped web content or fixed licensing agreements, ProRata.ai licenses publisher content and shares recurring revenue based on how frequently that content contributes to AI responses. The platform attributes every answer back to its source while creating new advertising inventory inside publisher websites.

"Keywords built the last advertising economy. Questions will build the next one. We are proud to be creating that market with publishers, not around them," said founder and CEO Bill Gross.

As consumers increasingly replace keyword searches with AI-generated answers, ProRata.ai is positioning itself as the infrastructure connecting publishers, advertisers, and AI. The company expects Gist to process more than one billion questions per month by this fall, creating a scalable marketplace where trusted content continues generating value long after publication.

Industry Adoption Accelerates

The five new publishing partnerships build on a rapidly expanding ecosystem that now includes more than 700 licensed publications, with organizations such as The Boston Globe, Vox Media, Future, The Atlantic, Fortune, The Guardian, and TIME participating in ProRata.ai's attribution network.

Nova Cottage Co. Builds Toward Commercial Scale

Nova Cottage Co.

Idealab Studio and IdealabX modular housing startup Nova Cottage Co. reached several key milestones this summer as the company advanced its first customer project, expanded commercial interest, and strengthened its position as an advocate for affordable housing across California.

The company's first revenue-generating project — an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) replacing a homeowner's garage in Altadena's Eaton Fire burn zone — is now moving through the Los Angeles County permitting process. Once approved, construction is expected to begin later this summer, marking an important validation of Nova's prefabricated housing model in a community rebuilding after disaster.

At the same time, Nova's growing visibility has fueled public interest. The company was recently featured on the cover of Pasadena Weekly and on the front page of the Los Angeles Times' California section, driving increased website traffic, social media engagement, and inbound inquiries. Reflecting on the response, the team noted that one supporter described Nova's off-grid cottage communities as "the Phoenix rising from the ashes... leading the way to the future. At the lowest achievable price."

Driving Systemic Change

Nova's impact is extending beyond construction sites. CEO Caroline Paules recently testified before California lawmakers on behalf of California YIMBY in opposition to SB 1090, legislation that could restrict "gentle density" housing in the Eaton Fire burn zone.

The proposed policy would limit Nova's ability to develop bungalow court communities designed to help residents rebuild after wildfire displacement. As the company shared, it will continue advocating to "construct easily permittable, quickly installable, actually affordable housing," signaling an expanding role in shaping the regulatory environment alongside delivering new homes.

Nova also continues investing in its proprietary technology platform. Development of the company's innovative Nova Grid mini-grid utility system is progressing with the addition of distinguished engineer Ky Krieger, whose expertise in commercial off-grid systems will support efforts to decouple future housing developments from traditional utility infrastructure. The company is also preparing a pilot proposal through the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) to demonstrate fully off-grid model homes.

Commercial Demand

Commercial traction is accelerating alongside product development. During the quarter, Nova secured a letter of intent from a private Los Angeles County landowner for a 200-cottage development, representing the company's third signed LOI and its largest potential project to date. According to the company, the development reflects exactly the type of customer Nova is targeting as it works to address housing shortages while maximizing underutilized land.

With permitting underway, multiple commercial opportunities in development, growing media visibility, and continued investment in its off-grid technology platform, Nova is positioning itself for its next phase of growth. The company is actively seeking mission-aligned investors to help scale manufacturing capacity and accelerate deployment of its prefabricated Cozy Cottage Kits across Southern California and beyond.
